What to look for
As you can read in my welcome intro I'm a possible alfa returner...
Previously had an old Alfasud and 33 16v when I had more money than sense and slipped into family life with Audi avants to follow...
An old family friend has recently passed on and his 129000 mile, one owner, garaged nightly, 1991 33 1.5 ie is on offer.....it's red, has a manual glass sunroof, alloys( some peeling), a disconnected passenger window switch. It's never been bumped into and has rarely been above 70.
I went to start it today. It's been in his garage for 7 weeks and had absolutely zero power in the battery. It eventually started tho' cut out again. It restarts fine when jumped so it's likely to be the battery or (hopefully not) the alternator.
It's had a bit of welding done behind the front suspension mount. There's slight rust on the tailgate window corner and hardly any along the door lower edges (which ours had much worse in 1998!) Paint is generally pretty good and will polish up fine.
What else should I be looking for?
The mot has about 9 months they think and tax runs out next week. The family lawyer values it at £250.
Is this reasonable?
What sorts of things, and how costly, can I expect to go wrong?
Clutch (seemed fine)
Gearbox (the infamous 2nd gear seemed absolutely ok tho the whole box seemed 'rubbery' compared to the Audi A6 6 spd / old 5 cylinder avant I have currently),
when do the belts need done?
