I will be modding my sprint to take to the ski fields.
Goal 1 will be reliability & able to handle rain/ snow
Goal 2, comfort & room for skiis/ new low power/small stereo
Thirdly, shedding weight and making it most fun on the twisty mountain roads + loaded with people + gear.
I want to fix the electrics up right good.
Here is how i have fixed my wiper/ dash lights/ tacho issues (this info is already suggested by other people, i follow their advice, just adding pictures & saying it works).
Run an earth cable from the engine earth point, to the steering column.
This engine earth point has a cable running straight to the battery, and one to the chassis. So just follow the negative terminal of the battery to find it.
I used amp power cable wiring, thick good stuff is a good idea (heat resistant would be best). Solder or crimp with pliers a connection onto both ends of this wire (i just clamped the bare wire in, which works, but i will do a proper job soon)
I ran this cable to a clamp (is this the steering rack clamp?), and attached it to the lower bolt (between the washer and the steering rack clamp). This bolt runs into the driver footwell, so i will add a metal fitting here, and run extra earth cables off this to anything necessary. But the bolt has a good connection to the steering column, so does the business by itself. (this bolt is the one with a nut over the carpet)
Do not take the bolt out of the thread like i did, just loosen it to connect the earth cable behind it. If you take it out you may have to use a hammer to get it back in.
This has completely fixed my previously crappy wipers
