Chris, about your two penneth, is that in Cyprus money?
I'm a big fan of the Track day attachment for several reasons, even though just as last year I doubt very very much that I will be attending in or hooning round a track in an Alfa of my own,
BUT, last year was an incredible success in every single attendants eyes, it was just marvellous, and without it being a track day, that could incidentally omit some of the biggest draws to the event in the first place, i.e. Teds Sud, Rodgers Sprint, Kev's 16v Sud which are track only and not road legal, so no-one would have otherwise seen those cars or owners for starters, and that would have been an enormous shame.
Secondly, those who weren't on track with a car of their own, still found a good area to congregate and chat with each other AND get involved with both the spectacle of the track day and chat with all the fellow owners, who spend plenty of time off track aswell as putting on an pretty interesting display on track too, there was certainly no one too preoccupied with the track day not to be truly involved with the general theme of the Boxer Meet aswell.
Finallly, the car parking is free, and the surroundings are virtually always full of alternative interests aswell! Cadwell is beautiful, Donnington is steeped in history, with museums, the airport connection etc etc they're just good places to be and hold the event in general I reckon, not to mention that 9 out of 10 are easily accessible, major road routes or scenic drives,
its all good!
Kev and I know of a lovely little alternative to the track day argument, where car parking, eating and drinking facilities, even scenery and surroundings, road access etc etc are pretty darn good, but I wouldn't expect Ted, Rodger, and many more to tow their cars to a "show and tell" in a car park ANYWHERE! and so for those reasons alone I think that type venue should be reserved for a different sort of meet altogether.
To repeat the above, the track day attachment last year was a spectacular success, it will really take some topping, so to even try to get near to that success, I suggest that it HAS to be a similar type of event.
all those in favour say I?
