all valid points
the main intention of building a track day sud was that i can't afford to go rallying, and going sideways wherever possible is what makes it worthwhile.
i have no real interest in shaving seconds off my laptimes if it means the fun has gone, or i need to go much faster to get the same sideways action which would push it to a knife-edge of handling where there would be such a fine line between having a laugh and getting injured that i wouldn't be able to occasionally push the car beyond what it wants to do.
as chris says, i'm not trying to make a career from racing (although if anyone wants to sign me up.........
) but am merely doing the thing for fun.
but i will make changes to make it a little safer to drive as it really doesn't want to turn in at all well at the moment, then when it does the back end says NO
fairly easily. nice fun when you catch it, but it's still a risk that it gets away from me, like when ted was in and it went too far in hall bends. or with shrew at the gooseneck.
if i was stage rallying again like ade then tidying the lines and sorting the handling to shave seconds off the times would be more important than having a laugh so that would again be a different story.
but for now i'm happy with the list of mods i came up with.
sort the front end with 2.25" springs and coilover type set-up.
hopefully that should allow a better balance between front & rear to be achieved.
also be sorted to make a better noise as much as anything
will also extend the cage to pick up the front strut mounts and probably down to the jack points, and also to the rear turrets.
better seat belts also, 6 point ones. the 4 point ones are ok but seemed to come loose on the shoulder straps.....
tyres will be upgraded, maybe to the toyo R888 but at about £500 a set
i'm not sure.
will have more of a chat to ted about how progressive they are.....don't want to create the knife-edge hangling i mentioned before..
having driven on slicks before while tarmac rallying i know they offer a HUGE gain in grip over road tyres, but it needs to be managebale. but without the extra grip from tyres the suspension mods would be wasted.
one things for sure, there is room for improvement!
keep debating guys, nobody is getting offended, least of all me
