This is just a thought, BUT !!!
I need to have some solid tappets made an any local machine shop, so that I'll be able to put the valve timing with my vernier cam pulleys on my 33.
The engine is a 16v, and it runs with hydraulic tappets and Fast Road Medium Colombo Barriani cams.
As its a quad cam engine, I'll need to have at least 4 tappets made solid, so that when I'll be measuring the lift of the valves, I'll know for sure that its fully open.
If I try to do this with the hydraulic tappets, I wont know for sure if valve is at maximum lift, because I wont know if the hydraulic tappet itself is at its higher point or if its not full of oil and it could be anywhere between higher and lower top lift.
After the valve timing is set I'll need to remove the tappets and put the hydraulic ones back on.
Makes sense ? Good
Now, real question here is :
What if I change all hydraulic tappets to solid ones ?
Will it make any difference on the power ?
Obviously with solid tappets I can have more agressive cams, but I dont want to spend another grand on cams.
I know Addie sells these tappets with shims:
I'm currently revving up to 7500 rpm.
Can I go up to 8000 rpm with these tappets ?
Never really liked hydraulic ones as they tend to tick when empty and make my money pit engine sound like a cheap banger
I changed them TWICE on this engine over the last 7 years, and at 32 Euro each, I now feel like an idiot for not getting solid ones made to begin with
Thoughts ? Ideas ?? Advice ??? Breakfast ????
