hi all .. after getting it fully licenced and having to buy a new fuel pump as 2 used ones were starving it of fuel i was able to go on a good 20 mile test run today and have a few questions if i may ..
conditions : 28'C in the shade... quite 'warm'
i will list what worries me most in order :
1. engine sounds like a sewing machine under load .. tick tick tick tick .. when it idles or running in gear with no pressure on the throttle it does not do it ... when i rev it (3,000 > 4,000) in neutral it does not do it but as soon as i press the gas in gear it start ticking and its quite audible .. pleaseee tell me its not big end bearings
.... could it be tappets / valves ? oil is 20w50 and oil pressure will constantly stay at around 25/30 no matter the revs ... (standard electric Ti gauge so i am not trusting it is that accurate)
2. temperature climbs to 95/100 mark (max is 120 on the gauge) ... fan works. dash warning light was not on throughout the journey but as soon as i arrived at my garage and left it idling in the sun until i opened doors etc the dash red light came on .. i am positive it did not light before. is 95/100 normal ?? no coolant was expelled from the overflow pipe i watched it carefully. coolant is Paraflu.
3. engine is idling at around 1500 > 1800. it varies. too high i know but idles nicely at around 1000 when cold ... if i manually flick the carb lever it goes down to 1000 so could carb butterfly be sticking
also i have probs engaging 1st and reverse when dead still and idling high .. no probs when it idles at 1000ish .. is this 'normal' ? on the move gear change is no prob at all.
other that that thankfully all is fine .. runs straight, brakes well and in a straight line, smooth suspension etc.
hope you can shed some light
