alright so im selling my series 2 33. the only problem with the thing is the speedo doesnt work. now i had a guy come look at it with his son last weekend and he agreed to buy it, now his wife who didnt look at it doesnt like the idea of no speedo in the lads car and now he wants me to fix it before he pays the rest of the money and picks it up. if it was a mechanical problem i have no dramas with that. i can do mechanical. but this black art of electronics and witch craft of italian electronics i have had enough of (between 2 of these and an italian built husky with a bum stator chasing the problem for 8 weeks really has me annoyed with italian electronics right now.) anyway. previously i managed to get the thing working for about 6 months but removing the dead spider looking thing near the battery and soldering them wires together and cripping on a loop and bolting it to the firewall, as said this worked for about 6 months then sitting at a set of traffic lights i put my wipers on and the thing didnt work ever again after that. it flickers into life occasionally but doesn't really give a speed reading it just sorta bounces round the place. now ive been poking round with a multimeter and i have found that all three wires coming from the sensor seem to be powered in some way. its a little odd but im getting a voltage reading between all three aswell as between each wire and the body or +tve battery terminal. im also getting a resistance reading through the system when i unplug the plug on the instrument cluster and probe that. i should add that the 3 wire plug that sits near the master cylinder and connects the sensor with the instrument panel (or so it seems) has been soldered together if that effects the readings im getting in anyway (as its flowing through the instrument panel? am i correct in thinking this?) so yeah. i hope this makes sense. my plan for the weekend is to put the sensor out of my 16v in this one and see if its a problem with the sensor. as a general overview of the problem. speedo doesnt work, sometimes flickers while driving, when you turn the ignition on the speedo needle jumps a little, which for my thinking means the instrument it's self is fine and its a sensor or connection problem. so any ideas for me to try?
(i have read some other speedo threads but some are completely dead and the others dont seem to have that many suggestions)
