Lots done today at Mario's shop. Took the day off work because he asked me to go over and prep a Sprint for him thats in for a restoration and also he wanted me to sand down the roof of my SUD to bare metal so he can finally start working on it.
So, after taking care of the Sprint, I spent about 5 hours on the roof of my SUD
My roof was full of paint cracks, and after today I understand why and why Mario wouldnt start working on the car till I sorted that out
So my roof was formed by the following layers from top to bottom:
1- black acrylic paint
2- red epoxy primer
3- thick layer of badly mixed filler
4- silver paint
5- badly mixed and still not dried body filler
6- silver paint
7- factory black primer
So after spending 5 hours sanding it down and scraping off the thick pile, with every method available, I ended up looking like father christmas and with a slightly dented metal roof ....
It appears that someone had somehow droped something on the roof when the car was silver, took it to be repaired and whoever fixed it made a mess. Then the rest of the effords to repair it was like building on sand, just adding layers and layers of paint primer and filler.
Word of advice:
If you havent mixed your filler properly and with the correct amount of hardener, it will never EVER EVER get hard, and it will cause you these headaches...
