Spint QV 1985

1985 Spint front shockers

Can anyonw tell me if the shockers used on the 1985 Alfa Sprint QV were the same as those used on the 33. Also did the shockers change on the later 1987-89 1.7 Sprint. I have purchased the Spax Sport Adjustable shocks but my mechanic tells me they are 40mm longer than the factory Koni's and the last 30mm of the shock does not taper from 40mm down to 24mm as per the Koni's.
Spax Supplier
SPAX / Shock Absorbers 'Adjustable' (Front) / ALFA ROMEO Sud/Sprint (excl. 1.7 with Alfa 33 suspension) 72-87 / Euro Performance Car Parts
Model Spax TAG1045-1

THey have asked me if the shocker is the same as that used on the late 33

I've tried to see the picture of the shock absorbers on the site, but the picture they have there is probably for advertisement only.

The 33's came with 2 different types of suspension.

1 - BOGE original struts, 4 bolts on top, shorter strut, cylinder type coilover

2 - SPICA ? original struts, 3 bolts on top, longer strut, cone type coilover.

The second type was usually fitted on late 33's, made after 1993, with catalyst.

Your Sprint been a 1985 model, should be an S3 with outboard brakes. Right ?
If thats the case, you need option number 1.

Send me a picture of both what you bought and what you have. I'll let you know what you can do

An 1985 Sprint could be either inboard or outboard brakes.

33's came with 2 type of 4 bolt on top, Boge, as you say, and spica, early type use metal roller bearings, later type use plastic fag bearings. then there were the 3 bolt ones which i know nothing about

Spint QV 1985

Alfa Romeo Sprint 1985 S3 (Outboar Brakes)

Hi. Yes brakes are outboard on my 1985 Series 3.
I found a set of New Koni sports by chance a wrecker had a pair so for now I have been lucky but might try ro source a new pair to put away inc the rears. Im wondering what the chances are of getting Koni to run a batch. Seems from my research that there is a demand form them.
