Exhaust leak

I pulled the gaskets out and three were thick silverish metal and the last one had two burnt up coppery gaskets. Upon re installing with some extra gasket material from Autozone the leak is worse. Any suggestions?

if the pictures are of it re-installed then your problem could be that simply the bolt on the back flange has bottomed out and isn't clamping the exhaust.
best to use studs with clean threads and new nuts otherwise they can just stop going tight where they previuosly had been and feel tight without clamping the exhaust very much.
best off taking it down, tapping the threads in the head. new studs installed. fit new gaskets with a thin smear of exhaust paste then tighten using new nuts. also make sure that both the head surface and the exhaust flange are spotless.
you should see a tiny amount of paste squeeze from joint to show it is meeting up nicely.

while you have it down also check for any cracks around the flange where it's welded to the exhaust pipe. shining a bright torch or leadlamp around the outside while looking for any light inside sometimes shows cracks. or spray it with WD40 or something and see if it gets damp inside.

Replaced the header bolts. It was much easier than I thought. I also put a clamp on the center section. The car sounds much better. However, I still get a farting like sounds when I let off of the gas in gear. Is the car running too rich?

I've been getting this recently, maybe due to opening my airbox (cutting off the bottom).

I'll be closing it again as summer is arriving and was in a 4 hour traffic jam last night with the carbs getting very hot.
no signs of detonation but not healthy for my little boxer.

I'll be adding an extra inlet on the right side to feed more cold air into the box though.
