ok. spoke to GAZ shocks today.
after a good chat with the tech guys I am more than happy to fit what they have built for me. the inserts they have fitted have been tuned to suit the suds weight/power/use without over-complicating things with the adjustability factor. these ones also have a bigger piston diameter than the adjustable ones too..
i have been advised to try these with the spring rates supplied, and take it from there. easy for me to change the springs to alter things without having to find the sweet spot between spring rate and damper setting.
takes years of practice and experience to know what you are doing, but minutes to **** it all up again!
so i'm happy to say that i'm leaving it to the experts and fitting the struts as supplied.
if it turns out some way down the line i want to go to adjustable ones then they can easily re-do my struts, all the hard work has already been done
if anyone is thinking of upgrading the shocks/struts i can thoroughly reccomend GAZ. incredibly knowledgeable but friendly and helpful too. when i rang, the lady on the phone said the top guy wasn't available today as he was out testing, but put me through to another tech guy who was really helpful.
the main guy was out at silverstone testing shock settings for the clio one make series that they have got the contract for apparently, but if i rang back next week with any more questions he'd be happy to answer them.
these guys have far more experience than i will ever have, so good enough for me
