ok, back to the alfa talk
got my front struts back today from GAZ
Gaz Shocks | Performance shock absorbers | Suspension Kits | Adjustable suspension kits | Camber adjusters | Top Mounts | Premium height adjustable suspension kits
pretty much as they said, a 3 week turnaround
only had chance for a quick look over but must say i'm very impressed with what i've seen so far
as they said they would, new legs have been made using parts of my original casings.
bottom mounts are original but now on bigger casings, 50mm now instead of 45mm. piston of damper also bigger at 22mm over 20mm on old ones.
comparing to a spare converted leg that i have borrowed they also have lowered the steering arm attachment bracket to allow the angle of the steering arm from the rack to be more like OE even after the car is lowered.
adjustable platforms have been welded in place to allow for ride height changes.
top mounts have been converted and now have a large spherical rose joint type bearing in place of the rubber ones.
everything supplied from GAZ, spring platforms, springs etc
everything beautifully tig welded
they will be able to be rebuilt very easily now by GAZ as they have a more normal top threaded cap for the insert, their own insert available off the shelf so no more getting the "not for an alfa mate" comments
only a couple of slight issues at the moment
they are supposed to be top adjustable shock inserts, but i can't see how?
and the poundage of the springs is a bit low i think. i sent them all the details of the car, anticipated weight/power/usage/reccomendations from the racers and they have fitted 325lb springs.....may be a bit soft?
easy to change though to sort the balance and not exactly expensive. will be a decent base to start from anyway.
the one good news though is the price. i was quoted £530 for the work to be done but the final bill came in at around £465 inc shipping both ways
that may account for the possible lack of adjustability on the shock inserts???
