ok. another long day. very dark & wet by the time i've finished, i miss being at jims' place
so first job was to drag the donor S2 sud out and rob the rear race springs and koni yellow shocks to swap over to the sud.
springs are massively shorter and pretty stiff, but not seemingly too stiff so should be ok. stuck some spare springs under it for now with no shocks to keep it mobile, very tigger like
the fronts were a different matter though. when i jacked the S2 car up the springs clanked out of the pans almost immidiately, they are so very short and stiff it would be impossible to keep in place. can't imagine how they did on that car
so i didn't bother taking anything off the front as they are sud struts afterall and i have 33 legs so how much woudl swap anyway is debateable..
decided to go the leepu route from chop shop and cut a loop from my 33 springs. not the ideal solution but it has lowered the front down a bit and they still have enough tension to keep things in place at full droop.
will be making coilover/2.25" spring legs over the winter so this is only a temporary solution
rear shocks were a dissapointment though when i came to fit them to the sud.
they both work perfectly and are clean and leak free, both adjusters work great and it's easy to adjust in situ, but.............being sud ones they are longer than the sprint ones i need
so the rear now has the race spec springs and the sprint shocks, albeit very good condition sprint shocks. should be interesting!
i also made up some arrester straps to stop the springs falling out on droop. simple enough and a blatant copy of ades' design
doubled up length of seat belt bolted to the hub and the inner wing. has just enough tension to hold the axle up and the springs are held in place but are almost out of tension.
should make for some leg cocking action coming into the mountain
stance is much better now, will look better still once the arches are on
tomorrow, i'm doing nothing to it. not a thing.
i know the deadline is looming large but i'm burnt out.
and the mrs has dropped a few hints like "we are going out tomorrow, are you coming?"
i've been far too busy of late and haven't done the family stuff for ages. had my 156 for about 3 weeks now and we've not been anywhere in it.
ride up to grimsby for a look around the shops, on to cleethorpes for some fish & chips and a walk along the beach.
actually sounds quite appealing now after all the long nights
cadwell soon guys
