Nice valve tool. Was looking at buying one myself but the shipping to Uruguay put me off
Are you going to use a Flex-Hone to de-glaze the bores?
Also will you fit new rings after the de-glazing or keep the existing ones on?
I got good results with a 180 grit flex-hone used with chromed rings. Moly require 240 grit.
yep, is a good tool which i unfortunately had to buy for this engine, never mind, it will last me a few years yet.
took the engine block, crank & heads into a local engine builder/tuner today to get them to check the bores etc for wear.
his visual inspection was encourageing, he couldn't believe how little wear there was for a near 20 year old engine
he's not actually done an alfa boxer before and seemed surprised how different they are to his usual fare of subaru & porsche boxer engines which they build to race spec.
they are going to do a light skim of the head face and also take a bit off the block. not too much to really make a great difference to the compression ratio but will ensure the faces are true.
they will also hone the cylinders for me, could have done it myself but they offered and it takes no time plus will also come back cleaned after it's done
the crank looked in good order to him and will get a micro polish, the front crank pulley will be machined down to just the 1 V belt groove and the whole lot will be cleaned ready for assembly.
the workshop had a mitsy evo & a scooby in while i was there so they get a few different cars, now an alfa boxer too!
should all be done by the weekend
once i get the nod from them that all is indeed ok then i will order the rings, shells & gaskets. also removed all the core plugs so a set of them too. plus cam-belt kits, water pump etc etc.....
