Ooh, I know what you mean, mind you Ford security didn't improve much over the next 20 years really did it, but it was something of a high time in car crime, i'm guessing around the late 80's to early 90's you're talking vecchi?
i asked about the colour because i though i might have known the car from back in the days when you could drive around market square chasing the ladies! i used to meet up with some escort guys on the weekend and hoon around until the wee hours, or until we got chased out by the 5.0! ha ha!
don't suppose you remember Keith from stapleford by any chance, well known notts escort loon, Dark Blue, Light Blue and White schemed mk2 1600 with forest arches and a respectable 1740cc motor if i recall correctly, he was funny!!!
Ah, them wert' daze eh laddy!!!!!
Anyway, back to topic, ive been tidying up more than anything today, and getting the car back on stable footing after its little unplanned trip!
so once i got it at a reasonable height again, i got my head back in front arches and waxoiled all the cavities, and then started with the seam sealant and red oxide just for extra protection really, as they are pretty tidy anyway.
also waxoiled both sil cavities to the brim, and repalced the bungs, so nothing can attack Kevs corner plates from inside either, and then just finished off the waxoil by topping up the wing rail cavities, which are like new anyway, so never have any issues there i hope!
i managed to get one front wheel inner arch near enough finished, and ready for some satin black finish before the inner guard goes back and covers up all the hard work, but ive still got the new bumper brackets to sort out yet so i can't get carried away with screwing it all back together yet, and i started to get a little distracted by smoothing and filling the new aircraft filler mod, and tackling a minor crease in the nearside rear door bottom, and a couple of tiny dents in the bonnet.
I have to say, i mixed up some fine filler thinking i'd go round her and lob in wherever i come across anything, but i hardly used anything and was really chuffed with just how straight she is,
ahh, bless her!
or, either ive got rosso red tinted spectacles all of a sudden, or the filler fairies have been in overnight, i was sure i'd have more to do, but it starting to come together in the bodywork area.
the filler cap area is a little tricky trying to keep the original body curve and the profile line that runs the length of the car, because the donor filler plate is dead flat, so making this area look as good as stock is tough, but going well.
ive flashed it with some grey primer so that i can better see the high/low points, which i find is much easier when its all one colour as opposed to pink filler, gold paint, white primer, and bare metal!
I'll get some photo's over/after the weekend of all these bits for the thread, but right now i'm really pleased with the way its coming on, but have to leave it alone for a few days and do some, err, what is it, that thing you do when you're least enjoying yourself and gets in the way of ploughing on with fixing up old alfa's,
oh yeah, work!
