been to see some very helpful subaru drivers/owners and they let me drive their cars, measure them and even take some bits off to copare tham to the 33.
turns out that subaru helped design the early manual 4wd system for the s2 33. not sure if they had anything to do with the perm 4 or not.
after looking at both cars next to each other, i have decided to keep the alfa shell and put ALL of the subaru running gear in it.
Brakes, suspension, engine, gearbox. even the master cylinder and steering rack.
i'm going to keep the alfa dash and stick some bucket seats inside. i need a new fuel tank as the alfa one doesnt have big enough holes and the scooby one wont fit. but this project is nearly go.
the doner subaru is going to be a jap spec wrx with 240bhp and lsd diffs. its a 4 door with a big dent in the boot and some smashed glass. fresh import from japan for just £1600!!! including import tax etc.
still not sorted a p4 chassis yet but i'll get round to it soon enough.
280bhp turbo 4wd 33 here i come!
turns out that the front track of the subaru is only 99mm wider than the 33 and the rear is only 91mm wider. so some nice custom carbon wide arches will cover the 5cm stick out on each side.
i think that seam welding the chassis is going to be needed at least near the suspension areas and i may get a weld in roll cage to try and hold the rest of the chassis together. but i'll wait to see how it copes without at first.
