Who said cleaning up doesnt pay off ?
I spent the whole morning today cleaning out my small warehouse at home.
I found 7 used exhaust gaskets, from which I can use at least 4 of them as they are in quite good shape
In other news, the steering column joint will be shipped from Peter on Monday.
Now to a dilemma I have....
After clearing out the throttle clearance issue with Steve (smusician), I remembered that I got a set of 40's Webber carburators to install on my 16v engine after it was bedded in...
Thus the reason for bringing the warehouse down to find them
I completely forgot about them
They are filthy and full of dirt, but not seized. I test fitted them with only the plastic 8v carb adaptors, and they sit nicely and the throttle is cleared
Now... my dillema is this :
1 - Keep my clean and working 32mm's DeLorto's and make 8mm plates to clear the throttle mech. ?
2 - Clean up my 40mm's Webbers and install them without any spacers but with only a braket for the throttle link to bolt on ?
Second option is a bit of a risk , as I dont know if those carbs will work or not, and also I dont know if they will be too much for the 1.7 16V engine and end up like a friend with a Lancia BETA who installed bigger carbs on his engine and hasnt been able to tune it since (car would choke up on too much fuel).
On the other hand there will also be clearance for a nice set of carb filters, pipercross or K&N or whatever...
What do you guys think ?
By the way, 32mm Dellortos and 40mm Webbers are the diameters of the carbs. I dont know what they might be with the jets installed and dont know how to check them either...
