Have just put k & n on thanks to Jonathan in christchurch.
Sounds like a V8 now
It seems faster all the way across the rev range now (went out last night when it was cold and engine temp was not a problem). I have trumpets inside the k & n.
Third gear revs to 125km/h now, a very nice suprise. Before in third, it would hesitate and lose power at a lower speed (cant really remember, not watching speedo when doing this speed in third). I always assumed this was too small jets. I wont bother with 4th at all now driving around the Waitakeres
After about an hour and a half when my brakes really needed some time to cool down anyway the engine lost power (engine temp is ok).
I pulled over, at the turn off to piha and it was overfueling like nuts. There was fuel flooding around the idle jets on the right carb, and hissing/ gurgling through both carbs.
I let it settle down for half an hour and considered disconnecting the throttle on the right carb. (is this a good idea to do if one carb is playing up badly in future? )
Luckily it started back up with a bit of nursing, still overfueling and i put it in third, then drove back to titirangi without touching any pedals. (except to get up a few steep hills). It was like a luge & much more fun than driving normally.
. She plays up sometimes but there is a nice light inside the bonnet and i am yet to be left stranded.
I am wary of adjusting the carbs myself, and will probably take it to the alfa guy who set them up for advice. Or should i just try different jets?
Also for running an oil catch can, (i got one for $50 with a filter from repco), what is the right setup? (i was thinking maybe to add an extra filter not running off a catch can onto the second tube which i have blocked off with duct tape, and place it higher than the catch can)
The setup is zip ties & duct tape at the moment, and the filter does smoke a fair bit under revs, and eventually smell up the cabin. Is it ok to put the filter inside a wheel arch? Or will this slick up one tyre with oil?
I think the main plus to the k&n filter is engine bay space.
