Car is back on the road as of yesterday, big thanks to Mark at West Sussex Alfa Romeo
He used Alu Slip for the sliders. The old carriers were heated up and the sliders knocked out, one is snapped, if I can’t get another I will get my engineer bloke to machine another, what material should be used?
The brakes are not finished yet, braided hoses still to come, I still have to adjust the rear compensator so that it is about 5mm away from the spring and readjust the rear shoes, due to the compensator putting too much force to the rear and wearing the shoes.
All I can say is FCUK me, it was very hard not to lock up in the wet, the pedal is firm and from cold the brakes are fine.
I have tried many different pad and disk combos in my youth and settled on red dot 60 groove with a race pad and even they were not as good as what I have now.
I do not see the need for a big brake conversion.
I have spoken about fitting a roll cage and seam welding and have decided not to go down this route. A 6 point cage is not going to stiffen up the chassis and I need at least a 12 – 15 point cage, I don’t want to hack up the dash ect ect.
I am going to fit a non PS rack but need to get it converted to a quick rack first, needed in hill climbs.
I am also picking up a race engine tomorrow with about 160 – 170 bhp on throttle bodies, with the kind help from Ian O. I will be getting a 1.5 ser 2 sud ti box and am thinking about a 1.3 sud box, will the 1.3 be to under geared and will it be strong enough?
I need help with what clubs do hill climbs, sprints, cost, what’s needed ect. Can I do a try before I buy before I commit on suit helmet ect ect.
