mechanical camshaft compatablity
all, i have read a view threads on mixing and matching 1.7 and 1.5 parts which are all very interesting. also in understand the basic differences between 1.5 twin lobe, 1.7 mech and hydraulic tappet engines, and this brings me to my questions.
Visual inspection of twin lobe camshaft carrier shows up some variations with the 1.7 mech camshaft carriers. but i cant seem to find any difference between 1.5 single lobe and 1.7 mech tappet camshaft carriers?.
so the first questions is. (1) does this mean i can but 1.7 camshaft carriers on a 1.5 head and use the 1.7 performance cams i have?
(2) am i correct that there are differences between 1.5 camshaft carriers and 1.7 mech tappet ones, or are they actually the same.
I know i wont get the head enhancements with either of the above but i would get better flexiblity on camshaft choice?.... Is there anyone that can help as i have started the build on one engine and want a spare for racing, just want to be sure i use the right parts as a start point.?
My last question is around cam timing, i have two sets of adjustable cam-gears and am having issues finding the camshaft marks on them, so have two questions.
(1) can someone post pictures of where the marks are and
(2) what they line up against in the housing.
