Thanks for the sound advice whizzman.
But the bores are in great shape. They are clean with a good cross hatch.
I've just cleaned them lightly with a scotch pas and lots of carb cleaner.
They were de-glazed 2 years ago. (But unfortunately I can't take the engine out, I'm in a crowded rented garage and will just be impossible, parking is a premium here in the city of montevideo and not every house/apartment have garages)
I have 183-193 psi on average.
(183 was on the piston with the broken tappet and lobe.)
Also all the old rings are messed up now and don't recall from which piston they came from
I took the piston rings into the shop and they measured them, all the same, maybe just slight wear from the 2 years of use so I bought new ones all round. The oil ring looked a bit worn though.
I have 5 grams of difference between the pistons - is this acceptable? I was going to take some material of from inside the pins as suggested by alfa romeo pro manual.
The oil seals were leaking a lot I believe. These were changed and the seats/guides checked and cleaned up by a pro.
