Hi Guys & Gal
I forgot to mention I also had problems on the way home from Duxford on Sunday, I had an oil leak!
Driving home I began to think that the brakes were not as efficient as they had been on the way to Duxford, added to this the occasional smell of burnt oil wafted into the cockpit. When I got home, a fifty minute drive I noticed a lot of staining on the front near-side wheel. Further investigation showed that the suspension, brake disc, exhaust and the cylinder head were also covered in oil;
I cleaned it up and had another look after 30 minutes. There was oil below the front camshaft seal so I had a look in my box of spares and found a new camshaft seal and decided to start on Monday night.
I spent a couple of hours Monday night stripping down to get to the seal and found that the seal was indeed leaking, but I was surprised by how little considering the mess. Tuesday night had the old one out and the new one installed, leaving Wednesday, (on holiday now), for the reassembly of the camshaft belts etc. During Wednesday I made a discovery, there is a crack in the nearside camshaft cover at the bottom left bolthole.
This is what was causing the mess, but there was leakage on the front camshaft seal so it needed doing. I will post photos of the camshaft cover soon.
So for the next few days I will be playing with the Minari to get it ready for the Minari AGM at the Stoneleigh Kit Car Show 01/05/11, this includes, cleaning the brake disc, replacing the brake pads, flushing the cooling system, replacing the fuel lines, (Flushed the tank last week), fitting a new fuel filter and then cleaning out the carbs again!! I have been having problems with dirt in the fuel/carbs since I fitted the engine and refurbished the carbs.. My tuning guy has advised several treatments of Forte Advanced Formula Gas Treatment to help with the problem, so fingers crossed the new fuel lines and filter will be the final part of the puzzle.
Hope to catch up with you all soon
