Well, for the first time in the 14 years I have owned SND94X, I decided that I am getting past grovelling on the garage floor! So I entrusted the caliper and disc replacement to the acknowledged Sud experts - Tom and Phil at BLS.
The drive to Lincoln was a tad fraught - no handbrake and front brakes started to bind and overheat again!! So a couple of layebye stops to adjust and allow to cool off. Nothing worse than to approach an island and feel the brakes going spongy!
Anyway, I eventually made it, even after making it difficult by taking a wrong turn in Lincoln.
Needless to say, they have done a faultless job. The recon Budweg calipers from Brakes International proved to be excellent and a set of pads and near new discs I have had for years did the job.
Whilst with the experts, I also had the carbs tuned, although I was not sure it was needed. However, the mixture proved to be a bit lean and the car is now running really well - better low rev pick-up and wonderfully smooth through the range.
Brakes are better than they have ever been (yes, even the handbrake!) and I'm sure they will improve further when properly bedded in.
I really enjoyed the run back from Lincoln to Nottingham .
To Tom and Phil - thanks guys -great job - it was a pleasure, and thanks for the courtesy car!
