hey ppl. i know this is a bit a of a stupid question but i was wondering what sort of risks there are running my car with an alternator that is on the way out... basicaly the bearing in it is a bit worn BUT it still works and isnt making any noises yet.... the reason i ask is that i was going to get it reconditioned while i was getting other things done but ive gone over my budget and thought it could wait... what do you all think - am i risking anything else if it stuffs up on me...?
Once had a school mini-bus catch fire on me on the M25, luckily no students on board but the culprit was an alternator that over-loaded and caught fire. In turn hoses etc. also caught alight, then fire extinquisher failed, as it was a powder type, and had solidified into a block. Luckily a lorry stopped and the driver threw his fire extinquisher to me and I put the fire out.
