16v cylinder head removal - in the car

I need to remove the cylinder head on my Alfa 33 16v.

Does anyone know if I can remove the R/H head (Cylinders 1 & 3) without removing the engine from the car? How can it be done?

If not, could I lower the engine and twist it far enough to lower the cylinder head and remove it off the bolts? Will it touch the front fixed crossmember?

Can anyone (who's done this delicate trick) please let me know in the next couple of days?

Many thanks

Adam H

Re: 16v cylinder head removal - in the car

It can be done in car. Prepare to buy a very slim torx socket and wrench. Loosen the upper engine mount and the front engine mount. Vedge a huge wooden pole in between the front side member and the relating cam cover and force the engine to one side of the engine bay. Be prepared for some serious oil spilling, as the heads contain at least half a litre of engine oil. Do what you have to and reassemble.

Any further questions? post them here or Email me.
