got a few more finishing touches done today.
tidied up the wiring for good now, all joins soldered & wrapped in heat shrink then cased in protective wrapping, should be ok now
also had a bit of a scare which turned out to be quite handy really.
went to start the car and the code light didn't work which meant no go
i still had the fiat key dangling with the ingnition aerial so figured it might not like it after all. got the fiat key in the vice and prised the fob apart to get the transponder out. buggered the key but got the transponder, no problem as i don't need the actual key
fits in the alfa key a treat, same part
still wouldn't start
gave the plug at the code box a wiggle and the code light flashed on. tried again, same result. car started
had a look at the terminals in the connector and the pins were slighty prised away, most likely from me tracing the wiring when trying to figure out what goes where.
squeezed up each terminal, plugged it back in and success
now works every time whatever you do with that terminal
so not only did i find what could potentially have been a break down waiting to happen but i now have the fiat transponder in the alfa key
dashboard all back together now as i seem to have gotten everything working now, even the speedo. time will tell how accurate it is, still on the axle stands so can't tell for sure, even if i've done about 70mph already
drilled a couple of broken studs out for the headlight mounting that i snapped off a few months back
new inserts in place now.
the jobs are getting less & less now.
mount the power steering reservoir.
mock up for an intercooler.
prep & paint the other 2 wheels.
couple of pipes to sort.
that's about it now
had a really big scare too on the insurance front.
i always knew it would be a bit more than i'm used to paying with the changes from standard, the 156 costs me around £240 for the year. tried a quote on confused.com for a look just to see how much more it might be
couldn't believe what they were saying, almost £1,800
tried adrian flux but they were still talking around £850. not so bad but still a lot more than i wanted to pay. seriously considered it to be a track day only car at this stage
a few minutes ago though i got my smile back. had an email from greenlight insurance, they specialise in modified cars. infact the car HAS to be modified for them to do it
sent all the details off yesterday not expecting to hear anything until tuesday but they have come up with £427
still a jump on £240 but manageable. seems the 145 will make it onto the road after all
