Hmmm Suspension top mounts

Hi Guys

Quick question, should the rubber top mounts on the front suspension of my sprint move about when the steering wheel is turned (while the car is stationary), if not what's wrong?

Cheers Moriarty

Had a 33 1.7 QV

Mine are well fixed and don't move.

You have a lose mounting there? Have you checked the 5 bolts?

Movement is normal in the rubber, especially if old, it is there to be flexible and isolate road noise. If you want to get rid or movement go for solid mounts, but the driving experience will be less pleasurable.

Hi Moriarty
How much is it moving? It is designed to absorb vibration so is flexible, but shouldn't physically move about.

Cry Like A Baby suspension top mount

Hi Alfasixnut

The top mounts move a lot, which leads me to beleive somthing's not right, the suspension has been off recently and i'm wondering if the top mounts havent been put back correctly!
Just to fill you in on the background to this on going saga, when i bought the car the ride height was ridiculously high so i fitted some lowering springs, this made it too low! so i am wondering if the legs i have on are from a sud saloon, is this possible? the legs have a thick piston rod and deep lower spring pan. (approx 7cm) How can i tell the difference between a sud leg and a sprint leg? Would this affect the top mount?
I have read the thread by GRAFFIATURO and SUPERCHARGED16v which i found very useful, but i need to establish which legs i have and try to sort it from there. Hope you (or anyone
else) can help if not, maybe i will throw the BL**DY lot away and start again!!!
