clunk clunk!

Had the sud out over the weekend, started first time after 4 weeks, then after about 4 miles there is a clunking coming from the front, i suspect its drive shafts as its worse on lock. Whats strainge is it it does not make the noise when its cold, is this normal or do you think its something else? if changing one shaft is it common practice to change the other one too? thanks.

chasing noises can be a problem, so many things that can make a clunky noise. ball joints, steering joints, springs/spring pans/bearings, shockers, wheel bearings, arm bushes as well as the drive shaft CV's

does it making a rhythmic clicking noise when on full lock? that usually means a worn outer CV joint. not neccesary to change both drive-shafts together

a knocking while over bumps etc will often be more associated with a worn joint or rubber bush

My sud does all of those noises and its probably all of those problems Kev mentioned before

If its on full lock or almost full lock its probably the outside parts of the drive shafts John. It wont do it when its cold because the grease is still cold and thick. As soon as it warms up it becomes softer and thinner - thus the noise.
