hi kev it went into the bodyshop about april/may time i think, theyv been slotting her in between other jobs to keep the price down mate, its been frustrating the past few months as theyv missed a few deadlines we set and theres not been much getting done at all
i cant complain too much tho as the price he's quoted me makes me wonder how he makes any money!! suits me fine tho haha
anyway theyv been quiet over xmas (and still are) so theres loads of the final prepp work been done, i went in the other day and fitted the steering and front suspension so they could move it into the booth for the final coat and lacquer this week
then the next job is for them to fit all the trim and interior, leaving me all the under bonnet stuff to do back home!!
hey lib hows things? the engine block is standard 1.5 but im fitting it with an alquati inlet manifold and twin 40 idf carbs, gas flowed heads along with original Gleich 106 cams... this is the exact conversion that Dieter Gleich did in 1979 to produce the 106 special edition (except for the gas flowed heads)... im hoping for about 110hp which i think is great for minimal work and outlay
the next thing i have in mind is to build a 1.6 block next year, lightened and balance with higher compression to make good use of the hotter cams etc... hopefully that'll give me a very torquey engine of about 125/130bhp, perfect for what i need
im really looking forward to the summer and having her back on the road, shes been tucked away for a couple of years waiting for a resto and iv missed driving the old girl badly, she never fails to put a big smile on my face
i think the best drive iv ever had was the day i picked her up from st ives and drove home 8 hours.. it felt like a 2 hour drive haha
i owned the same car but in yellow (my first alfa) when i was 18 and the smell of the interior took me straight back there!! "AMAZING" how can something made of metal, plastic and rubber give us so much joy
this little car i will never sell!!!
and heres the low down on the special edition if anyone interested!!
