ok this is really not a weekend tinkering event....
im slowly rebuilding my 16v while the sud is away, and got a top tip for cleaning pistons.
normally it takes a fair amount of elbow grease and effort to clean the carbon from them and get the ring lands clean, my boss suggested this tip, remove piston from rods and remove the rings. stick them in a bucket of water, nothing else and leave them a few days. now my boss being very old
and working with engines for best part of 50 years i thought its worth a go...
so i soaked them and it works a treat! the carbon is so soft i used a credit card cut at 45 deg to scrape/wipe! of the carbon, it beats using an old ring to clean the lands too as cant accidentally remove any metal from the pistons.
might be worth a go if you have a rebuild to do....
i took a piccy of two tonight as i was re installing the piston to rods,... mmm shiny
