Revs not dropping

Hey guys,

sometimes when I change gears or stop at traffic lights the revs dont drop. When changing gears it'll drop to around 3000 and hang there, when it happens at lights it hangs between 1500-2000.
Anyone know what it could be? I haven't had a look at it yet, been too busy donig strut pan bearings and ball joints.

Or try with TPS (throttle position switch)

does the throttle pedal go loose as it might be somehting jamming the throttle linkage. I had my heads ported and fast road kent cams fitted to my 8v, after the mechanic took it out for a test run, i started it up and revved it and the thing didnt want to stop, turned out something jammed the throttle linkage.

I had a plug lead get jammed in the throttle linkage. It was like having cruise control on the motorway but made people look at me strangely while 'idling' at the lights..

The TPS is not likely to react this way. Usually if its in "on" position on idle the car doesnt start at all !

Idle valve could be the fault , not very likely though. Usually when those malfunction, they dont get the revs up at all ! Not the other way round.

I would go for the throttle cable !

Thanks for all your advice fellas.
I took the idle control valve out today and cleaned it, sprayed carb cleaner in and gave it a shake, did that a few times and it is quite a bit better.
So I'm thinking it just needs a bit more cleaning. Would it be OK to plug one end fill it with carb cleaner and let it soak overnight?

its all fixed now all it needed was a good clean. It's still got a bit of an irregular idle so I'll take it out again and see if I can get it a bit better.
