I have had a few different types, Yokohama 1509's were great, A520's ok although went off fairly quickly. A539's not quite as good as the A520's although somewhat quieter. Firestone SZ50's on my Sud were dangerous although not too bad on a 33.
None of the Pirellis have impressed me, I had a nasty incident on a set of P4000's on my Permanent 4, they let go very unpredictably and later overtook it on the track in the rain in my Sud!
Currently running Bridgestone RE711's which beat all the others hands down on road and track, quiet, durable, grippy wet and dry and cheaper than the A539. Interestingly they don't seem to be chewing up the tread blocks even on tight circuits.
A good way of comparing grip is by treadwear rating, A520's and A539's are around 180-200, RE711 is 140 (same as a Pirelli PZero)
If you want to try the Bridgestones do it quickly, I believe they are out of production now...
