As said before, it all depends where and how you do your driving... If you drive around town alot with lots of stop and go's your engine bay will get hotter, so you will end up getting alot more hot air sucked in, resulting in loss of performance... But if you drive on the country and motorways, you will probably get a little more responsiveness for the engine... either way you allways get a lovely sound...
You must also think about the weather conditions, and what kind of roads (dirt, dusty, muddy,..)you drive on and if you want to get all that stuff on your filter...
You've got another option that is a panel filter fit into the airbox. All you need to do is optimise the entry so that it sucks as much air as possible (large diameter pipe in front of the car going up to the airbox). I IMHO think this is the best option...
