My P4 just sniffs oil - it probably uses a litre every 10,000kms. Selenia 20k/Formula Alfa 10W40.
Are you checking the oil at the same time, in the same place, in the same way?
If the engine is only just started for a few minutes before you switch it off again, then there will be less oil in the galleries and oil passages, so you will get a higher level than if you take the car for a 20kms drive before you check it.
If you take the car for a long drive, you have to give it longer with the engine switched off, so the oil can drain back to the sump, otherwise your level will read lower than it should.
The best time to check the oil is first thing in the morning, before you even started the car. Then you know that there is as much oil in the sump as it can possible have. Fill it up to MAX based on that reading.
Also, make sure the car is in the same place each time you check it (and not on a slope) as even a small difference in gradient will change the oil level reading you get.
