Nice reviews of boxer engined Alfas by S16V and markp2. The only one missing now is the 145 1.7 16V. Anyone?
I've driven the 145 16v. Although its the same engine and gearbox, I was amazed how much different the car is !!! Thats when too much electronic stuff started to go on Alfas
... too much for my taste anyway !
The 145 doesnt have the nerv and throttle responce as the older boxer Alfa's. You dont feel the power push you on the seat either.
The 16v engine we installed in George's Sprint ( Alfa_Sprint_16v ) came from a 145. We originally installed it as it was - electronic coil pack, no dizzy, lamda sensor, unleaded vacum hoses, ECU with vacum etc.
The car was a bicycle !!!
Between George and John with the 1.7 8v 33, John kicked his a** every time
Then we removed the lamda sensor, changed the oil pump and installed a dizzy, put an airflow meter and changed the ECU to a bosch motronic ML2.1 that was used on non catalytic 33's and removed the whole vacum hoses set.
The result was a WORLD of difference !!!
The reason why I'm telling you all these is that because I believe that the 145 had the potential to be a much better car but because European restrictions and laws started kicking in, they held it back
However it is very comfortable to drive... and it has tons of space over my head , so it should be ok even for guys over 1.80
I'm 1.68 and I fit nicely in Suds and Sprints too
Sudaddict , my man !
We should hang out !
