I'm thinking to fix a 1.3 gearbox to my 16V. I think of this for a long time but i can't find a good gesrbox, but i have the time. Is there some one who has done it, and how fast do i reach the 100km? Remco's Alfa picture page
Maybe you could rebuild the box with 1.3 gears so that you retain 5th gear from the 16v box. That way you could still keep your cruising gear and save fuel on the highway. As Australia never got the 1.3 (can't imagine how crap that would be), as far as I know anyway, I have not heard of anyone doing this here.
The 1.3 and the 16V have exactly the same gear ratios, the difference is the diff ratio.
Even with the lower ratio diff the top speed is going to be over 120, but the 16V doesnt exactly need a lower ratio first gear to spin the front wheels. Most of the time it would just be easier to sit in a lower gear
It has been done quite regularly with the 1.2 boxes on the standard 1.7 (twin carb) it will work with a 16v, it has been tried but only for street use, the only racer we have up here with a 16v has a 1.5 box, i may be able to tell you in a couple of months as some projects are currently afoot
