Change of valve cover gasket
I`ve got a little problem with my 1.7 8V: The right valve cover gasket is leaking. Not a big thing itself, but sooner or later it`ll get worse. Of course i could try fixing it with some sealing compound from the outside, but imho that would be a complete balls-up.
Well, the timing belt is due to be changed anyway, so I`m planning to renew the valve cover gasket. That means I`ll have to remove the heads and renew the head gaskets as well. No big deal, but I`ve got a question regarding the reassembly of the heads: Is it enough to tighten the screws in correct (torque 67NM) order or will I have to release and re-tighten them after heating up and letting cool down again the engine ? Do you lubricate the screws, i.e. with engine oil ?
The engine`s done 120.000km, so i thing I`ll get some new tappets too before removing the heads.
Thank you all in advantage, Tobi
