Windscreen Wiper Problems
Hey guys. Was wondering if anybody can help me, and maybe in turn I can help someone else with this problem
Want to know how the wipers work with delay, and self park and all those things, well here is how I figured it out. Obviously, if anyone thinks I made a mistake, please let me know, but Im pretty sure of this:
Ok, so lets fo from top to bottom, assuming you have a 2 speed wipers with park and delay capabilities.
For FAST, you have the "fast" wire connected to "12V" wire.
For SLOW, you have "slow" connected to "12V"
For Intermittant, you have "delay" connected to "12V" and "slow" connected to "park"
and for the OFF postion, you just have "park" connected to "slow"
How this works is quite simple. The "park" wire is a hot 12V whenever the wipers are not in the lowest postition, thus having this connected to "slow" will cause the wipers to do the full motion until its in the lowest position, thus cutting off the 12V the the "slow" wire and thus keeping it from starting again.
How exactly the delay works, Im not sure. I am assuming that connecting 12V to delay, will somehow have electronics to wait a while, and then get the motors going, having the park feauture "take it from there" and then parking, then waiting, and then doing the same procedure again. That is how I think it works, any body with info on the delay system will help me alot.
Now, to my problem. Firstly, the delay funtion does not work, but it did, so thats how I know that my wiring was prob correct. 2ndly I dont know what the delay unit looks like, or where it is. Maybe someone can help there and tell me how to test it..
Then 3rdly, I have seen people talk about the wiper relay, exactly how does it work and where do I find it. I know how a relay works, but in this case, what does it actually switch? Just the slow and fast or what exactly?
Lastly, my park feature also stopped now. Why, I dont know, think that is the biggest question I have. I measure 12V between the park wire and ground whenever the wipers are not in the lowest position, just as I am suppose to, but when I then connect park to slow, nothing happens, nothing, and then it measures 0V. And when I remove it again, it measures 12V again. I connected a 12V lightbulb between park and ground, but it does not light up, the voltage falls to 0V again. I dont get this. Its almost as if the 12V is not "powerful" enough and that everything takes it down to 0V. I know this makes no sense, but maybe someone can shed some light.
