Hi and congrats on your puchase
fuel fumes can be from leaking hose on the tank or a cracked fuel hose in the engine bay.
Because the 33 has 2 small holes under the rear seats, its easy to get the smell of petrol inside the car.
Get under the car and check your tank if its dry and also the hoses. Then if those are ok, start the car and have a look inside the engine bay on the fuel hoses. There should be a minor leak somewhere !
2nd gear will be a bit tricky untill you get the hang of it ! As for reverse, what I do, is push 4rth gear in before reverse ! It will go right in
I know it sounds a bit weird, but ... welcome to the boxer world
As for the wipers, they shouldnt be slow at all ! If they havent been used for a long time they might get faster while you use them. If they dont get up to speed, you might need to take them off and refurb them
Ventilation controls have a couple of small light bulbs inside but dont expect too much from them.Only bright enough just to see the controls. Again is something you get used to.
Things to look out for at this time :
Slave clutch cylinder is sometimes leaking , especially after so many years, so that might need change in the future - not expensive
Also make sure you change your oil in time and put good quality oil in the engine.
Have fun with your new toy and post some pictures
