Just browsing through this section and noticed the Alfasud van, reminding me that a few years back I owned a very similar Alfasud Giardinetta.
I bought it from a chap in Somerset who used to tow a burger van with it
At the time it was just another old banger to him so just a couple of hundred quid bought it and enabled the gent to have extra space for his rabbits!
Quite an interesting car really, came over from South Africa, was possibly built there, had lovely formica type decking in the rear, would have an ideal hearse for umpa lumpas or maybe an animal funeral parlour
It only had an 1186cc engine which was tired so I bought a scrap Sud sc and used the engine, seats, bumpers and wheels hoping to make it look more modern, changed the colour from gold to red and somehow got it through an MOT.I thought that was it and would be able to use my pride & joy every day but constant electrical gremlins got in the way.
When it was running people made the easy mistake of thinking it was Austin Allegro
put a picture of each side by side then you'll see what i mean.
The time came when I needed something more reliable and swapped it for a Tipo 16v which I now sorely regret but ce la vie
I know the new owner and every time we speak I ask him if he wants to sell but he never does.
At least I've had the pleasure of owning one and maybe on day i find another being used as a chicken shed.
