One other possibility is an internal breakdown in the ignition coil - the insulation oil may have tiny specks of carbon floating around, and this will cause an internal short circuit and a weak spark at the plugs. The effect is fairly random though, if you have a continuous misfire it is probably something else.
Just a point - I've looked at a number of Bosch rotor arms with the mechanical cut-out, and I don't recall ever seeing one rated above 6200-6300 rpm. Are you sure you don't just have a 6000 rpm rotor arm?
It might have been stuck before your drive up the mountain, and maybe isn't now??
There's usually a label on the side of the rotor arm telling you what the cut-out speed is. I've got a 6000 in mine.
Whatever the trouble is, I hope its not serious!
