Re: need info,33 8v/16v block differences

There are differences in the water path between 8v and 16v as the second has more... I know that you can use 16v block (because it is better) with 8v heads but i dont know if the opposite can be applied....

isn't the oil return pipe external rather than inside the block on the 16v engine? that may cause problems in the alignment of all the head to block holes?

My race engine is using an 8v block with 16v heads and 16v internals. Although I think I am using the 8v crank as it gives better oil pressure! But certainly the 16v conrods and pistons with a 16v sump due to the oil returns oh and 16v big end bearings too.

Re: need info,33 8v/16v block differences

Looked at this long and hard when I built my 1400 16V engine. The head gaskets are ALL different but waterways and oilways are the same in 1350, 1700 8V and 1700 16V blocks that I looked at.
Later blocks have the oil spray from the mains journals up the bores.
If I can put 16V heads on a 80mm bore block they should fit the 1700 8V block but choose the right head gasket.
