Rebuilding a 1.7 engine for my Sprint
Started to strip down the 1700 engine that I got from Steve Parry to do a full rebuild. Looks like it's been lying around for a while and the bores feel just a little bit rough although there are no wear ridges.
Hopefully they'll clean up with a light honing but if not then I'll be looking at a new set of pistons. If that's the case then the next dilema is whether to fit an oversize set of 87.4m pistons or get a set of 90mm pistons from Autodelta and bore it out to 1832 cc's. I'm not sure how much if any of a performance advantage the bigger capacity would give me without going down the route of getting performance cams to go with it ? Any of you guys who race Suds went down this route ?
Parts availability could be a problem. I contacted a number of local engine machine shops to see what's available in terms of gasket sets, pistons, bearings etc and I'm still waiting for them to come back with an answer.
Does anyone know where I can get this stuff ?
Appreciate any advice.
