Thanks for the suggestions guys, its much appreciated.
Green Machine is mid-engined, so the access to the cambelt covers is from underneath, although I can get limited access by removing the rear window/parcel shelf behind the seats.
In theory the whole rear bulkhead should be removable, which gives unprecedented access to the front of the engine once the seats are out, I guess I am getting close to having to do that now
That's a good point - its possible that oil is getting out at the camshaft housing/cylinder head interface and then finding its way out at the lowest point (directly under the camshaft). Its something else I can investigate...
I'm just wondering what to do for the best right now - I need to get the transaxle re-built before the next MoT in March (theres an oil leak around the offside drive flange and the synchros are shot in first and second), and that's an engine-out job anyway (any suggestions who could do the job, possibly upgrade for more power, fit an LSD???)
To get a good look right now would mean seats out, bulkhead out, cambelts off and nearside cam pulley off - it might be easier to defer the job until the gearbox is out, I just don't like the idea that the oil in the cam carrier is draining away (albeit slowly) as the lack of pre-oiling at startup will increase the wear on the cam and tappets...
...Plus I want to do the AROC B&W track day in October and I'm not sure the car (or me for that matter) is up to it!
