Some additional info about distributors...
As you probably have guessed from previous notes i had marelli distributor which stopped working probably due to bad maintenance. I have temporarily replaced it with a 1st generation Bosch one from Sud. The replacement was easy and didn't required any modification. Now some time for comparison.
-There is a significant change is exhaust sound. With Bosch one , exhaust is more loud and has an intensive "boiling" sound especially after 4500 rpms.
-There is a huge difference in performance and in torque curve although this has to do with the fact that Bosch is a little bit retarded. With Marelli , there was a huge boost after 3500-4000 rpms and could easily go to limiter at 6500 rpms and felt like small turbo , especially with the tuned 40's dellortos. From idle to 2500 rpms there was a little hesitation. Now with the Bosch , i have great behavior and torque in low mid range but after 4500 it has slow acceleration speed and hardly reaches 6000rpms (probably due to retarded timing ).
-I searched and found the ratings and variables for those 2 and it seems that Bosch is all over the place were Marelli is more precise and steady.
Some remarks : So far Bosch is a little bit retarted , i will configure it to the proper soon and test it again to see if i have similar behavior from the engine. Marelli onthe other hand , with poor maintenance, dirty and probably worn phase sensor cables had weaker sparkle ( tested when tried to revive engine before swapping to Boch) and i am wondering how it would perform if it was serviced and had strong current.
As a conclusion , if i had to choose between those 2 i would definitely would go for Marelli .
So , anyone knows how to service repair distributors or has a spare part lying around from a broken Sud Sprint that can sell me for a reasonable ammount?
