Well on the way to pick up a takeaway last night the 33 decided it would show displeasure at being lowered and decided to run on three cylinders at idle.
When the rain stopped earlier, I went out and checked the usual suspects, narrowed it down to fueling on cylinder 1.
Stripped out the jets and found....
The dreaded blue stuff (instant gasket courtesy of previous owner).
Its the second time this stuff has blocked a jet although its not happened in nearly 2 years. I thought I got most it all out last time.
So off comes the carb to be cleaned and i find...
The dreaded red stuff. Again from a bad fill a couple of years ago. Ive just bought an inline filter to keep this in check.
Confident that cleaning would solve the problem, i went at it, cleaned jets and carb, put it back together and the problem was better but still there. check jets again, ok. check spark, ok. don't know what made me take off the distributor but i found this
don't know how it got bent or when but I straightened it, checked that it wasn't fouling on anything and put the lot back together.
Again the problem got a little better but it still wasn't right. I ended up trying the mixture adjustment screw, which hasn't been touched in 2 months, and the problem has gone.
Hopefully it'll stay sorted this time as its got to do a 700km round trip next weekend
