Had a cracking day at Barkston Heath on Sunday.
Didnt start off too well when we got seeded at 72 out of 76 cars and 6th 1400 out of 9
Lets just say I had a point too proove after that.
Anyway day started dry, bright, calm and warm. It just got warmer and warmer and warmer.
After ss1 we were 50th O/A and 2nd in class. We stayed 2nd in class until stage 7 of 8. Bit of chaos in the in control when the car next to us caught fire. Ran and got a fire extinguisher and helped put the fire out. Then it started raining
. Only a 5min shower so stay as we are with hard slicks on the front, Yoky AO48R's on the back
Whilst we waited for the countdown it started raining again
. It got heavier and heavier and heavier
. Went from a damp track to flooded in loads of places
We caught and passed a 2litre mk1 Escort and managed to stay on the track most of the time. Surprising how much grip was available when the tyres were in contact with the tarmac and not just skimming across the top of it
We had now dropped to 3rd in class by 3 secs with the guy who was fourth promoted to second as he had been seeded higher and avoided the downpour.
Drive it like I stole it came to mind
Last stage went well and we beat the other guy by 10 secs on the last 6mile stage taking second in class and finishing 34th O/A
Really pleased with this result as the front shockers started throwing their oil out again and had got none left by the last stage.
We had been 25secs behind the guy leading the class before the downpour. He eventually beat us by 2mins. The power of rain
Best event and result so far this year
