The car is a bitsa. Its a S1 shell basically with mainly Sud running gear, A 1350ish block with 16V heads. Some of the standard parts have been modified / upgraded for rallying.
No award. One of the cost cutting measures these days. It used to be sort of an award for every 5 entries so you would have thought there would have been a 3rd award with 15 cars in the class but most events now make it only first and second.
If all goes well we are doing the Rally of the Midlands in June which is based around Hinckley and RAF Barkston Heath in August. I think both of these are your neck of the woods.
What did you do about your gearbox in the end?
shame about the award. bit penny pinching really as i bet the entry fees have gone up a bit since the 90's, we used to pay around £120 to £150 from memory, may have been more, my memory really is crap on most things
know there was a minimum class requirement but 15 class starters is more than enough competition, they could have spent another few quid to make your day
my gearbox is sort of sorted....
hadn't heard anything from tom & phil so gave them a ring on thursday to see how it was. you know the kind of thing, hoping they would say "yep, it was perfect, just needed new seals"
reality was that most of the internals were beyond help
they've had to replace all synchro's, 2nd gear itself, selector rods & forks, all bearings & seals, etc etc......
good news is they've mostly been using their own stock of good used parts where needed to keep the costs down a bit, new bearings & seals obviously, but as long as it works alright i'll be happy.
don't yet know what the bill will be
had a nice day out yesterday though, went to watch WSB practice day at donington with shrewi
apart from the condition of the spectator viewing areas though which are just dreadful
MCN will be full to the brim with complaining letters next week i bet
should be up for trip out to those 2 rallies mate, let me know when you've got the dates/confirmed entries
barkston heath for sure, only 30 or so miles away
