Hi Chris
Not really - it actually sits a bit higher at the front as I am using the 15" dia front teledials rather than those 14" pepperpots that I started with - so that makes the back look lower.....

Well after the winter hibernation the 6C lives and breathes again.
I have been contacted by a pro photographer who wants to shoot the 6C for a possible magazine article, so I have pulled the covers off, put in a battery, filled it with coolant --- and it fired up on the first try!
However there are some funny "blebs" in the paint and other areas that I have resprayed, so a quick respray is called for and my friends at Auto Spa hope to be able to fit it in early April. Of course it is four years ago that it was sprayed and I always said it would need another spray when the bodywork had settled down and the car was sorted.

Got to get rid of that stick for the hatch though to make it really great
Have you ever wondered about changing the colour? don't get me wrong but silver always shows the blemishes and is a right pain to "touch up"

Thanks for the input guys - I will consider a colour change ( Black or Rosso) but as it may be a tight timescale it may just be an exterior respray in silver.
Those chrome tailgate "Sticks" are not used now - the gas struts just hold it up but are supplemented by a small aluminium bar adjacent to one strut - the tailgate is a bit heavier with those steel louvres!

Phil, sorry to have to tell you this mate, but in order to get rid of those bubles - which eventually lead to paint cracks - is if you scrape off the paint completely from the affected panels.

and I mean COMPLETELY !

That is badly mixed filler, or bad hardener and/or primer paint hardener !

I see these things every day at Mario's paint shop.
Sadly, there is no cure for soft filler. It never dries out or settles. 50 years from now, it will still be soft and will crack any paint you spray on top of it !

Just look at what happened to my Sud ! It was painted black over silver, probably 15 years ago, but the paint was cracked allover the place ! After scraping off some of the cracked paint, I found that there was filler underneath that was as soft as toothpaste.

The good news, is that not all the panels are like that !
Its just the roof - which I just saw in the picture - and the two rear panels which the paint cracked from the beginning.

So Why not just do those 3 panels over again, and dont do a full respray ?

Thanks Chris - I hope you are right. It will go to the spray shop in a couple of weeks and I'll see what they think is the best way forward.

Update - my friendly spray shop has closed and so I have just contented myself with little touch ups to improve the Sprint for the photographs....... But I will also be going to the Classics show at Sharnbrook on May 12th so any other boxers fancy a mini meet there??

Hi Kam (Lib?)
It is a fairly small show in the grounds of the hotel on the A6. Usually about 200 cars and bikes - nice mixture but the organiser has a lot of Italian friends so a good selection of Ferrari and Lamborghini exotica is a bonus. The hotel has a good bar/restaurant and there is usually a hog roast outside and Grand prix showing on big screen inside.
Be good to see you there with the GTV

A belated update as I didn't get to the Sharnbrook show in person although the 6C was there. Then I replaced the towbar bumper with the silver original and drove the car into storage at my works workshop. The photoshoot got cancelled on the day before........
Now the magazine photographer has just recontacted me so it may yet get a photoshoot???

The Sprint is under the cover next to the caravan. In the foreground is my current project - building a Ronart with a 3.4 litre XK jaguar engine.

Hi Lauren (Nice to see you on here again)
I had to do a last minute family visit in London and had said the 6C would be at the show so took it, took off to London but didn't get back as soon as I expected and so saw the last few cars leaving.....
How are you and the "Green Machine"?

Hi Phil - I am good thanks, but Green Machine has been off the road since June last year! With a car like the Nova everyone wants to see it with the canopy open, and that drew unwanted attention to my hash of a dashboard. After reading one too many disparaging comments (on Flickr if I remember correctly) I thought I better re-design the dashboard, and do it properly this time - so here I am, a year-and-a-half later, still not finished!

So not much to report on this forum, unfortunately, although you will be pleased to hear that I am using Alfasud Series 3 rectangular face vents (three of them)

I've not been around mainly because it gets a bit depressing not having a car and reading about shows, meets and fine weather, but now that things are coming together I have got a bit more enthusiasm.

Things finally turned a corner when I got the electronics package working, first on the bench, then on the car...

First Test LM2917 Precision Tachometer - YouTube

Obviously a lot of finishing work to do, but the tachometer is built from scratch!

Quartic steering wheel is now complete (also scratch built) and full dash mocked-up in cardboard and gaffer tape (and painted matt black) for testing ergonomics and aesthetic appeal

The photoshoot finally happened yesterday! The photographer - Ade from ABCarpix came down from Glasgow and was very professional with additional lighting and cunning angles. He spent a couple of hours doing my V8 Sprite at home, then came to Thurleigh to shoot the Sprint 6C. He managed to avoid the worst bits and we even got some action pics out on a perimeter track. So now we will wait to see if the magazine (Retro Cars) takes them up.
