Re: Sprint 6C build up

Thanks for the kind comments (and welcome back Joakim - you helped to inspire me originally!)
The twin tail pipes will be on Both sides! If two is good Four is better
Actually they are a cheat as (at present only one pipe connects - the other is cosmetic.... However when I positioned the silencers I realised that the manifold pipes were not symmetrical on the car centreline and the exhaust tail pipes looked odd coming through the bumper in slightly different places - so the twin pipe arrangement has the dummy pipe on the Right - on both sides, so symmetry is restored....
(I may get round to cutting into the tail pipes and deflecting some smoke? out of the dummy pipe......)

I have been waiting to see the pics that show the finished lines. You have done a fantastic job Phil and when we have a picture of ours together we can call it 'two fat ladys'

If he is taking commissions then I'm first. Start with a 156, drop a Ferrari V8 in the front, from a 348 or maybe a 355, and with a 75/GTV6 transaxle and rear suspension at the back. In Ferrari Rosso with a GTA bodykit

No Commissions I'm afraid....I've go enough to keep me busy already
Nice to have comments from some new posters
- Hairyblokedude - is that an Alfa V6 powered trike?
Work tonight was routine - repairs to the top corner of the windscreen - cut out, clean up and treat the rust. Then weld in some new metal, fill with P38, profile and smooth (only quickly and needs more) spray can silver to see the effect.
I also got round to fixing another mounting bolt to the rear glass bulkhead, so that can be removed for trimming and finishing.

It is but I have a weeks holiday at the end of May and a week before the 12th so a lot will be done then.
I was able to finish another major section yesterday. The reinforcement around the N/S/R subframe to tie it in to the two sill box sections and then plating up the wheel arch. I've got to paint and underseal in there, but I have also got the complete plastic inner wheel arch section from the 164 which fits in there.

Re: Sprint 6C build up

Further progress - the rear windows need a bit of metal in-filling to ensure that water drains Out! So one side has been done and needs blending.
Then I wanted to finish the scuttle repairs and needed to take the windscreen wipers out-----so off came the bonnet locking rod, and the fuse box, and the heater block, and the pedal box, and the steering column, I knew the pedal assembly was rusted and floppy now I can see that only two top bolts held it in place!
I presume it just needs an "L" shaped patch.
But I then saw that the steering column is bent???? between the two U/Js --
-- is it supposed to be like that for crash deformation?
---Or should it be straight??

Anyway having cleaned the crud out I could see through under the battery tray - so that came out and the area cleaned, a patch made, welded in, primered, sealed, painted and reassembled.

I have great respect for you tackling all that rust

From memory the steering column has a kink in it

Re: Sprint 6C build up

I have great respect for you as well. Rust is pretty much the only thing that scares me about my 156. I am quite paranoid about it and am getting anal about wire-brushing, painting and undersealing stuff

Would love to learn to weld and tackle a project like this, basically building something from a bare chassis up again, but I probably never will..

Re: Sprint 6C build up

the inner wheel arches are the ones that worried you Sixnut ! Good job finishing those off as well

The worst is done. Now you need to finish off the patches !

....if you have so much rust in the front, you should also check the floor for rust as well ! I cant remember if you already did that

Re: Sprint 6C build up

Thanks for the reassurance about my "Kinky" steering column!!
The floor pan is in good condition (Thankfully) so apart from a couple of small patches to the edge next to the sills and the bottom edge of the sills to be welded, the floor is ok.
Start up is still a way off though (- but Kev has whet my appetite )
